Colonial Shift (Sidhaarth P. Raghunath Maryland )

I was playing PS4 with the boys for 2 whole hours. We were getting wins, rewards, and new merchandise. It was 9:30 p.m. I was completely exhausted, I turned off the system, and got ready for sleep. When I was in my room, I collapsed on my snug bed, my eyes closed, my limbs felt numb, my soul rested in the darkness alone, in peace.
The sound of conch shells disrupted my slumber. I was disturbed, I looked outside the window, small huts, surrounding a mansion in the middle. The men inside the mansion had redcoats, like the ones British soldiers wear. Fear flooded up inside my mind. Was I kidnapped? Have they brought me to England?
My parents’ cars weren’t in the driveway, in fact there were no cars and no driveways. It was just some horses tied up wagons. I was confused. As anyone would do, I went to check on my family, instead I saw a middle aged, white lady. She had a blue dress with a white apron that had a huge splotch of brown. I didn’t know what it was. I tried to stay calm and gave the lady a nervous wave.
The lady’s face expressed a strong feeling of confusion all of a sudden.
“Who are you, child, where are you from?”
Her accent was different, more of a British accent.
“I’m Sid, I’m from Maryland.”
“Okay obviously, but I haven’t seen you around here. By the way, what are you doing in my house?”
“Uhhh… I actually visited…my friend…” My nervous stuttering gave her a suspicion and I quickly got an idea, “PICK SOME STRAWBERRIES!”
I don’t think my answer was enough for her to understand. She didn’t care and left. The lady gave me an apple to eat. The apple was nasty and had an unusual squish.
Of course the apple was nowhere near consumable for my appetite, so I went to the door, and a huge flagpole was on the side of this hut. It had a British flag, over a United Colonies flag, showing the superiority of England towards the USA, or United Colonies at this time. The place looked oddly familiar.
“Uh… Ma’am, what is the date?”
“October 18th, 1783.”
My mind was full of astonishment
“And where exactly are we?” I managed to say with a gulp.
“Wadsworth Village of The Waverly Woods.”
Oh My GOD! I thought to myself I just time travelled! That explains the fact I was so tired and weird!
I couldn’t play basketball, video games, nothing I liked was invented! I mean books were for older people that along with old english with thou, thee, thy type of words. I was DOOMED!
After a while of thinking I realized, it was the day before our victory over the British in the Revolutionary War! I could meet George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Will Knox, and other wonderful people. Right then, the luckiest thing happened, I saw wagon go down the road, it read
WOODSTOCK
To
Yorktown
That’s where the final battle was! I snuck in secretly, no living thing with good vision has seen me. I don’t think I was supposed to be here, I hid under a blanket and thought of my parents, my friends, school! I mean at least there isn’t a legitimate pandemic going on. But the ghost of depression had been haunting me, I felt hollow, I felt weird. Right then, a cold breeze struck between the tiny holes of the blanket, I felt a great sensation inside me, I went to sleep.
“Hear ye, Hear ye, General Washington must come, for the battle shall start then!”
The announcement awoke me from my nap. I just slept until the next day. Boy, I must’ve been tired. I was so excited to meet the Founding Fathers, but the inside of me hoped this was all just a dream.
“The General himself has come. May the battle BEGIN!”
I couldn’t believe it! I just saw the father of our country! In the crowd I saw different faces, some determined, some sad, some angry, some with no emotion. This war was special. The beginning of a country (that apparently became a trillion dollar country), a new era.
The soldiers had shot heavy cannons, shooting rifles, blood was spurting out of chests, people lying dead on the floor, just to protect the country. Just for freedom.
“Give me Liberty, or Give me DEATH!” said Patrick Henry in a speech to encourage our American soldiers of the Revolutionary War. I couldn’t watch this gory film, I closed my eyes, and waited for everything to just end!
The British surrendered, I saw victorious glee in the US Army. I went to go meet the Founding Fathers.
“Congratulations, fellow Americans. In fact I am a child from the future. All of you soldiers and General Washington, Dr.Franklin, Mr. Jefferson, and Mr. Adams will be the most important people of our country.”
“Thank You! Here have this coin, something from my home Mount Vernon.” said George Washington
“Well, Thank You sir for giving all the people in the world a chance here.”
I went back to the wagon, skipping, I was so happy! I met one of the coolest people in the world. At night, I fell asleep under a tree. The same feeling has come once again. I closed my eyes, limbs numb, I slowly drifted to sleep in the breeze of the Independent Country.
I heard sizzles and clangs of silver pots. I woke up, I was back in my room, in my house. I felt relieved. Something was in my hand though, it was a coin! The same one George Washington gave me! This was all true. I felt confused, creeped, and happy at the same time. I went downstairs, saw my mom cooking a crispy dosa and some delicious, warm sambar for breakfast. I was ready to devour, but first, instead of watching TV or looking at my computer, I started writing. Writing about my miraculous journey through my dream.
