India Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan visit Houston, Texas

Texas: Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan visited Houston, Texas on Monday, May 23, 2022 . During his visit, a private dinner was hosted by The Consul General of India, Aseem Mahajan and his wife for the Minister along with elected officials from Houston, Texas who are from Indian descent. Amongst the guests were Missouri City Mayor Robin Elackatt, Fort Bend County Judge KP George, Fort Bend County Court at Law No.3,Juli Mathew, Stafford Council Member Ken Mathew.

The Consul General of India, Aseem Mahajan and staff pointed out the difficulties during COVID-19 and how it effected several Indian-Americans travel ban for people to India during this difficult time. The Minister, The Consul General and Elected Officials also discussed ways to further strengthen the multifaceted ties between India and USA.

Following the private dinner Mayor Elackatt said, “It’s an honor and privilege to meet with the Minister and discuss some of the ongoing challenges that face Indian Americans during these challenging times especially around COVID-19. Along with this issue, we had an opportunity to talk about the economy of both countries.” Mayor continued, “The Minister sated that as the Ukraine conflict impacts the global GDP, India is projected to grow by 6.4 per cent in 2022, slower than the last year’s 8.8 per cent but still the fastest-growing major economy.”

Minister, V. Muraleedharan’s visit lead the Indian delegation for the first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), being held under the auspices of the General Assembly at the United Nations in New York from 17 May to 20 May 2022. The Minister delivered an official statement at the Plenary Session of the IMRF. During the Minister’s short visit, he had an opportunity to also meet a wide cross-section of Indian diaspora in New York, Los Angeles and Houston, including those working in areas of community welfare, business, health, culture and education.
