In a recent conversation with a mentor, a short list of highly educated Keralite preachers in the American Malayalee Community came up and Dr. Samkutty was one of the prominent name mentioned. This is a brief reflection of the contributions of professor Samkutty, the well-known preacher and writer.
He has been teaching English literature full time in Mississippi and Louisiana, US since 1978 and has been a faculty member in the English Department at Southern University, Louisiana, USA. He has been preaching and teaching in many parts of the world including US, Canada, Middle East, India and other places throughout his life. His famous Malayalam novel “ Palam Thettiya Theevandi” (Derailed Train) was published in 1983 and reached thousands of readers in the Malayalee Community all over the world. Dr. Samkutty with Dr. Thomson K. Mathew
A gifted writer, powerful orator, talented song composer, great Bible teacher and a dedicated Evangelist, Dr. Samkutty has been instrumental in changing and transforming many to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. He sincerely used his God given talents, qualifications and knowledge to spread the Gospel to many and to glorify God.
In 2009 and 2010, while vacationing in India, he rented a minivan and visited over sixteen hundred (1600) homes in different villages and distributed his books and the New Testament to many and the majority of those people were Hindus. God has used this great servant of God for many years and in many parts of the world to educate, encourage, uplift, transform and empower many people to know and accept Jesus Christ.
Dr. Samkutty has been a great influence and inspiration to many and has been a blessing to the young and old Malayalee Community for many years. His passion, spiritual insight, powerful delivery of the Gospel, unique and logical presentation of the word of God pierced into the hearts of many young people in PCNAK ( Pentecostal Conference of North American Keralites) and other conferences in USA and other Nations. He was a great inspiration to me and others to write articles and Bible books. His loving, gentle, sincere and humble nature are great qualities that encouraged many to love God and live for God.
His dear wife Dr. Pushpa Samkutty is a microbiology professor in Louisiana. They have a son Ranjith, a daughter Bindu, daughter in law Deepa and three grandchildren, Justus, Jeremiah and Chance. Thank God for this wonderful family and their dedication and various mission works to spread the gospel.
I remember my first flight to USA and Pushap aunty was in the same flight and that was our first journey to US. Thank God for His great care, compassion and grace to both of us and our families for the last many years in this wonderful Nation.
Our sincere prayers are with this blessed family especially with Dr. Samkutty while he is having some health challenges these days and is limited to continue his mission activities as strong as before. He has done tremendous mission work from his young age till now and many people have been added to the kingdom of God as a result of the sacrificial efforts and dedication of this great servant of God.
Dr. Samkutty is familiar to all Malayalee believers and even to most Malayalee’s all over the world. We really applaud and appreciate this unique servant of God for his passion to serve Jesus Christ. We pray that God will strengthen him more these days to fulfill His call.
I would like to conclude this short reflection by a quote from Dr. Samkutty, “My goal is to inform, enlighten and inspire others regardless of their religious and political affiliation”. There is no doubt that he has achieved this goal through his exceptional writing skills and talents. We are so thankful to God for this amazing and blessed person whom we all love and admire. Let us continue to pray for this precious servant of God.
