In a meeting with Mr. K.C. Venugopal in Delhi, General Secretary for the Organization of Indian National Congress, George Abraham, Vice-Chair of the IOCUSA reiterated the view of the IOC that OICC (Overseas Indian Cultural Organization) has no relevance or standing in the developed countries such as the USA, UK, and Australia where political activities by ethnic groups are permissible The efforts by some in the KPCC to create these outfits where IOC and Kerala Chapter exist today are misguided and not constructive.  George Abraham thanked Mr. Venugopal for freezing the OICC global appointments and stopping the OICC global chairmanship installation ceremony at the KPCC headquarters. These attempts would not help but hurt us before the public that sees groupism as the primary obstacle to the revival of the Congress party.
OICC was specifically created for Gulf countries where political activities by non-citizens are forbidden. The word 'Cultural' was added to dilute the group's political significance. Dr. Karan Singh, who was the Chairman of the IOC at that time, approved that setup. Those organizations were primarily run by Malayalees, who have a large presence in the Gulf countries.
Mr. Venugopal acknowledged the receipt of my letter regarding this issue that was sent to Kharge Ji, the President of the AICC, and assured that he would take a closer look and address the issue in the near future.
