Dr. V. Thomas Alexander entered eternal life on February 3, 2025. He was born on January 15, 1934, in Anjilithanam, Kerala, India to the late Dr. V. Cherian Thomas and late Saramma Thomas. He was the second of eight children. In high school, he was a Maharaja Scholarship recipient, given to the top 25 students in Kerala. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Berkman University in Changanassery. He also completed a Bachelor of Education from N.S.S College. He proceeded to teach chemistry for the next seven years in a variety of schools in Kerala. He completed his master’s in chemistry at the University of Kerala in Trivandrum and graduated with 2nd rank in Kerala. He left India in 1964 and taught chemistry at Holy Child College in Cape Coast, Ghana for four years. He then immigrated to the United States in 1968 where he completed a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry at the University of Virginia followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Chemistry at Georgetown University. He then became the Director of the Clinical Chemistry lab at University Hospital in Augusta, GA from 1973 to 1998. After his retirement, he continued working as a lab inspector and consultant until the age of 84. Dr. Alexander was a compassionate, generous, playful, and dedicated individual. In his free time, he loved to read, watch the news, travel, eat great food, exercise, and spend time with his family and friends. He was a man of great faith and throughout his life, played a very active role in his church community.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. V. Cherian Thomas and Saramma Thomas and three of his brothers, VT Achenkunju, VT Chacko, and Thomas John. He is survived by: his wife, Annie Alexander; his children, Dr. Anita (Thomas) George and Thomas (Keli) Alexander; his grandchildren, who fondly called him Baba, Dr. Kate (Justin) Koshy, Scott George, Bella George, Luca (Liliane) Alexander, Tony Alexander, and Nick Alexander; and his siblings, Thomas (Mariyamma) Matthew, VT Thomas, Lena (John) Varghese, Babu (Lali) Thomas; and sisters-in-law, Dr. Susamma (Mathen) Mathew, Gracen (Daniel) George, Leelama Achenkunju, Sally Thomas, and Annamma John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
